Fundamentals of Biomedical Optics

From light interactions with cells to complex imaging systems.

Fundamentals of Biomedical Optics

Tools of Optics

Review of modern optics topics exploited in biomedical optics: geometrical optics, wave optics, interference and diffraction, and coherence.

Light-tissue interactions

From a general introduction to tissue optics to absorption, fluorescence, and scattering, we go up and down the Jablonski diagram to discover sources of contrast for spectroscopy, imaging, and therapy.

Imaging systems

In this part, we wear our engineers hats and boots to design imaging systems leveraging from sources of contrast within the Jablonski diagram. Microscopy: widefield, confocal, super-resolution, and nonlinear. And, of course, optical coherence tomography (OCT).
